John Francis “Jack” Welch Jr., 84, the former CEO and chairman of General Electric Co., has died. He was a chemical engineer who earned a Ph.D. in 1960 in chemical engineering at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.

Robert D. Reid, a recently retired professor of journalism at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, suffered a heart attack and died early today at his home in Champaign. He was 64.

CHAMPAIGN -Kenneth L. Rinehart, a chemistry professor at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign who was internationally known for his research on organic compounds involved in biological activity, died Monday at his Urbana home after a long illness. He was 76.

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. - David L. Swanson, the associate provost at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, died early today of a heart attack at Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana. He was 60.
