Peter James Garlick of Monticello, Illinois, died Feb. 16. He joined the department of animal sciences in 2003. Among countless academic achievements was his contribution to the field of human nutritional protein requirements as the chair of the Protein Subgroup for the U.S. National Academy of Sciences. Sheldon Ward Williams, 105, of Urbana, died Feb. 14 at Colonial Manor Nursing Home in Danville, Illinois. A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 25, at Community United Church of Christ, 805 S. Sixth St., Champaign. A reception will be held at 3:45 p.m. He became a professor at the university in 1951, retiring in 1981. In his first 17 years at Illinois, he held a joint appointment with the U.S. Department of Agriculture as the coordinator of the North Central Regional Committee on dairy marketing. From 1969 to 1972, he was a member of a university team in Jabalpur, India, assisting in developing marketing techniques for soybeans. Memorials: Community United Church of Christ.
