  • Campus Life: U. of I. professor studies history to shape the future

    James D. Anderson is the Edward William and Jane Marr Gutgsell Professor of Education and the head of the department of education policy, organization and leadership. He holds appointments in the departments of history and educational policy studies, and the African-American Studies and Research Program. Anderson's scholarship focuses broadly on the history of American education, with specializations in the histories of African-American education in the South, higher education desegregation, public school desegregation and African-American school achievement in the 20th century. He became a U. of I. faculty member in 1974.
