CHAMPAIGN, Ill. - The Office of Undergraduate Admissions at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign has begun a mobile version of its website. The site is accessible on smartphones at admissions.illinois.edu.
"The number of users visiting our site with mobile devices is growing daily," said site creator Doug Burgett, creative director in the office of communications for enrollment management.
The frequency of visits to the office's site by people using mobile devices increased from 329 visits in the 12-month period ending Sept. 30, 2009, to 32,739 visits in the comparable period ending Sept. 30 this year.
"Communicating through the right mediums is vital for the admissions office," said Stacey Kostell, admissions director. "We adhere to a multi-faceted approach for communications. The college search process can be overwhelming, and we want prospective students to find the information they want, in the manner they want."
The mobile version allows smartphone users to do everything that they could do on their computers, including review admission requirements, get application deadlines, learn details about academic and campus life, sign up for more information, and schedule a visit.
The mobile site works with most smartphones, including iPhones and Androids. Work will continue to ensure compatibility with additional mobile devices.
