CHAMPAIGN, Ill. — Members of the news media may pick up stadium passes and parking passes for the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign commencement at the Office of Public Affairs, 507 E. Green St., Room 319, Champaign, through Thursday, May 12, between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m.
Commencement takes place at Memorial Stadium on Saturday, May 14, at 9:30 a.m. Former Illinois and U.S. national team women’s soccer coach Jill Ellis will serve as the commencement speaker.
Ellis joined the U. of I. in 1997 as the inaugural coach for the women’s soccer program. She went on to coach at UCLA, where she led her teams to six straight Pac-12 championships and to eight Final Four appearances. Ellis went on to coach the U.S. Women’s National Team from 2014-19; her teams won consecutive FIFA Women’s World Cup tournaments in 2015 and 2019.
In addition to the universitywide commencement ceremony, a hooding ceremony for doctoral degree recipients will occur Friday, May 13, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at State Farm Center.
