  • Putting the bee girls to bed

    Lesley Deem, left, works with local beekeeper Nathan Beach to stabilize an indoor bee colony at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign Pollinatarium. They must carefully transfer the honeycomb-laden frames from a glass-walled display hive to a more traditional wood box hive for the winter season. Red-filtered lights and cooler temperatures keep the bees calm for the transfer.
