    CHAMPAIGN, Ill. - Fifteen undergraduate and graduate students in the University of Illinois School of Architecture were honored for scholastic excellence during the 2005 fall semester. A total of $1,750 in prizes was awarded.

The scholars from the Urbana campus will be recognized during a reception and dinner tonight in the lobby of the Krannert Center for the Performing Arts in Urbana.

  • U.S. News releases its annual grad school rankings

    In its latest rankings of America's best graduate schools, U.S.News & World Report ranked a number of UI units best in the nation, including the Graduate School of Library and Information Science, the department of accountancy and the department of civil engineering. The issue hit newstands April 3. The magazine does not evaluate all disciplines every year. How other UI colleges, departments and specialties fared:

    CHAMPAIGN, Ill. - A University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign graduate student has won a 2006-2007 Paul D. Doolen graduate scholarship for the study of aging. She will receive $4,000 to continue research in the field of gerontology.

    CHAMPAIGN, Ill. - Benjamin McCall, a professor of chemistry at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, is among 20 U.S. researchers named 2006 Packard Fellows for science and engineering by the David and Lucile Packard Foundation. He will receive $625,000 during the next five years to enhance his research efforts.

  • UI doctoral programs ranked on scholarly productivity

    UI doctoral programs ranked on scholarly productivity Twenty-six doctoral programs at the UI were ranked in the top of their fields based on the 2005 Faculty Scholarly Productivity Index. The entomology program received the highest honors with a No. 1 ranking. The 2005 index compiles overall institutional rankings on 166 large research universities, which offer 15 or more doctoral programs, as well as 61 smaller research universities, which offer between one and 14 doctoral programs. Each institution was ranked using the Faculty Scholarly Productivity Index, which provides an overall measure of faculty performance. The primary criteria for the rankings included journal publications, citations of journal articles, and federal grant dollars awarded. The survey was compiled by Academic Analytics, a company owned partially by the State University of New York at Stony Brook.   • 2007 ACES Academy for Global Engagement Scholars Selected

    2007 ACES Academy for Global Engagement Scholars Selected Eight scientists from the UI College of Agricultural, Consumer and Environmental Sciences have been selected to form the ACES Academy for Global Engagement class of 2007. The yearlong program encourages global awakening in areas of education, research and outreach. One member of each of the seven departments in the college and one UI Extension educator will represent the 2007 class. The academy involves a one-year commitment that focuses on global activities at the college, campus and national levels, and culminates in an international immersion trip. Each member of the academy is encouraged through the program by senior faculty mentors (called fellows) who have had scholarly experience on an international level.     CHAMPAIGN, Ill. - Four students at the University of Illinois were among 50 finalists announced last month as honorees in the annual American Advertising Federation's Most Promising Minority Students Program.
