    Hong Kong’s nearly four months of protests grow out of the city’s unique history as a former British colony and Cold War cultural battleground, says University of Illinois history professor Poshek Fu, a Hong Kong native and specialist on modern China. Much of his research on Hong Kong has centered on its film industry, which for decades made it the “Hollywood of the East.”
