  • Provenance exhibition shows challenges of tracing the path of ownership of artwork

A new exhibition at Krannert Art Museum, “Provenance: A Forensic History of Art,” will show how researchers trace the history of artwork, including examining export stamps on the artwork, as illustrated by a painting in Krannert’s collection, “Portrait of an Unidentified Man” by Moretto da Brescia. Provenance research aims to ensure ownership is legal and the artwork wasn’t looted.
