The Illini Union Bookstore at Illinois announces the second installment of its Sesquicentennial Reading Series on Tuesday, March 14 at 4:30 p.m. in the Authors Corner on the second floor of the bookstore, located at 809 S. Wright St., Champaign.
Steven K. Ashby, a clinical professor in the School of Labor and Employment Relations and Robert Bruno, a professor and the director of the Labor Education Program in the school and at the University of Illinois, Chicago, will read and discuss their book, “A Fight for the Soul of Public Education: The Story of the Chicago Teachers Strike.”
Using interviews, first-person accounts, participant observation, union documents and media reports, Ashby and Bruno tell the story of the 2012 strike that shut down the Chicago school system for seven days.
The reading and book discussion will be followed by question and answers, a book signing and a meet-and-greet. This event is free and open to the public.
