  • Renovating historic Altgeld Hall

Photo of workers on the slop of Altgeld Hall's roof with the bell tower in the background and tiles piled on wooden planks on the roof.

A major restoration of Altgeld Hall, a historic building that has served many functions since opening in 1897, includes removing the buildup of soot on the sandstone exterior, replacing the mortar and making structural improvements. Here, workers remove the terra cotta roof tiles from the roof below the bell tower, stacking them to be reinstalled after reinforcements to the roof and the addition of an ice and water shield.
