The Office of the Provost invites faculty and staff members and students to attend open meetings this month to discuss the budgeting process and actions the campus is taking in response to diminishing state funding.
Edward Feser, the interim vice chancellor for academic affairs and provost, will lead the presentations, which will include a question-and-answer and discussion period.
"The absence of a state appropriation for fiscal year 2016 and uncertainty regarding what we might expect to receive in a fiscal year 2017 appropriation presents significant challenges for the university,” Feser said, “but there are actions we can take now to put ourselves in a strong position for the future. The good news is that we have the talented faculty, staff and students to meet this challenge.”
The meetings will include information on the trends in state support for the university, including benefits, pension and MAP grants for students; budget planning currently being done by colleges and administrative units; and a new initiative to reform the campus budgeting approach.
Upcoming open budget meetings:
- March 9, 3-4 p.m., National Center for Supercomputer Applications auditorium
This session will have an American Sign Language interpreter for those attendees who are deaf or have a partial hearing loss.
- March 14, 11:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m., Room 612 Carl R. Woese Institute of Genomic Biology
