The U. of I. Wellness Center’s “Climb Illinois Challenge” runs March 15 to April 11. The challenge helps employees be more active at work by taking the stairs. Stair use is an easy way to include physical activity in a busy day.
The challenge is a free, self-paced program. All campus employees are encouraged to participate. During this four-week challenge, participants take the stairs, track their flights and are eligible for prizes.
To increase the fun, participants’ steps will be equated to several Illinois monuments and buildings. Participants who climb enough flights of stairs to equal one of three selected Illinois buildings will be entered in a prize drawing. Participants also will receive newsletters and emails about how to increase physical activity during the workday. Progress updates will help keep participants motivated.
The challenge improves employee health, but also can enhance departmental morale. Fliers and signs to post by stairs and elevators are available.
