FINE AND APPLIED ARTS
A retired U. of I. art education professor and a doctoral student in art history will be honored Oct. 9 with ACE (Arts, Culture and Education) Awards.
Professor emeritus Harry Breen will receive the Lifetime ACE Award “for his decades of limitless talent and enthusiasm, his lifelong dedication to his craft, his profound impact on countless students, as well as his veneration of his community and the surrounding environment.” Breen taught art education at the School of Art and Design for 25 years and established and coordinated a program for nonmajors. Some of his painted work hangs in Holy Cross Catholic Church in Champaign.
Xuxa Rodriguez, doctoral student in art history, will receive the Student ACE Award “for her passionate participation and consistent involvement in community cultural events, as well as her research in contemporary art by Latina and Afro-Latina artists.”
The ACE Awards are presented by 40 North-88 West. The awards will be presented Oct. 9 at The City Center, 505 S. Chestnut St., Champaign. More information is online.
