The appointment of Janet Slater as the dean of the College of Media will be extended for an additional three years, contingent upon approval of the U. of I. Board of Trustees.
Slater has been serving as dean since 2010, when she was appointed on an interim basis. After serving as interim, she was appointed full dean for a two-year term.
Slater’s many accomplishments in her role as the dean of the College of Media include the creation of a successful shared-management structure between Illinois Public Media and WTVP in Peoria, and the creation of the campaign and business development plan for the formation of the Roger Ebert Center.
She also has led efforts with other colleges for joint degrees and collaborative research projects for the benefit of faculty members and students.
Slater’s research focuses on brand strategy, media strategy and building brand relationships. Her research has been published in Journalism and Mass Communication Educator, Media Week, the Journal of Advertising Education and Advances in Consumer Research.
She is a contributing author to a series of advertising books published by Sage and co-author of “What’s in a Name? Advertising and the Concept of Brands.” She also continues to consult for national and international companies and recently was invited to China to discuss automobile branding.
