CHAMPAIGN, Ill. -- Fourteen University of Illinois students have been awarded scholarships to help them study abroad during the summer and the next academic year.

According to the Institute of International Education, 115,000 students will study abroad during the 2000-01 academic year. In 1998-99, 9.3 percent of graduating seniors had studied abroad, according to the institute.

CHARLESTON -- Shannon Buckley-Shaklee, 2505 Kari Knoll, senior in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, International Programs and Studies Study Abroad Scholarship and the Chad Lobdell Memorial Scholarship for the academic year at the University of Nottingham in England.
DARIEN -- Georgie Joven, 6701 Dicosola Court, senior in the College of Applied Life Studies, International Programs and Studies Study Abroad Scholarship for the summer in the Dominican Republic.
LAKE FOREST -- Jacob Simms, 653 St. George Court, sophomore in the College of Commerce and Business Administration, International Programs and Studies Study Abroad Scholarship for the fall semester in Australia.
LA PRAIRIE -- Erin Marlow, R.R. 1, sophomore in the College of Agricultural, Consumer and Environmental Sciences, National Security Education Program undergraduate scholarship for study in Argentina this summer and Brazil during the fall semester.
LEMONT -- Lisa Ann Smith, 101 W. Timberline Drive, senior in the College of Communications, Chad Lobdell Memorial Scholarship for the fall semester at the University of East Anglia in England.
