More than $44 million in student funding will go toward modernizing teaching and learning environments that will benefit the Illinois campus, Facilities and Services announced. Capital improvement projects were selected and approved by the Academic Facilities Maintenance Fund Assessment Oversight Committee and are in development.

For the fiscal years 2018-19, more than 20 project proposals were reviewed using criteria such as programmatic impact, visibility, emerging learning and teaching methodologies, economies of scale, energy conservation and life safety. The committee also conditionally approved allocating $27 million in fiscal years 2020-21 toward the future renovation of Altgeld Hall, once the university has secured the remainder of needed funds from other sources.
