The Illini Union will feature “Ms. Marvel #1: No Normal” by G. Willow Wilson as this year’s One Book One Campus selection. Wilson will speak at a free public lecture Friday, Oct. 6, at 7 p.m. in the Illini Union Ballroom. An informal reception and book signing will follow.
“Ms. Marvel #1: No Normal” is the first of Wilson’s graphic novel series. She is also the author of the comic book series “Ms. Marvel,” which won the Hugo Award for Best Graphic Story. “Ms. Marvel” features a teenage Muslim girl, Kamala Khan, from Jersey City, New Jersey, who has recently discovered her extraordinary super powers. An American convert to Islam, Willow lives in both Egypt and the United States. Her articles, graphic novels and books reflect her cross-cultural experiences.
Launched in 2005, One Book One Campus is a program that promotes and encourages engagement campuswide. The book is on sale at the Illini Union Bookstore, 809 S. Wright St., Champaign, throughout the year. The Illini Union is located at 1401 W. Green St., Urbana, and the ballroom is on the second floor in the northeast wing of the building.
