Jesse A. "Tony" Clements, 68, of Champaign, died June 9 at home. Tony joined the Division of Campus Recreation at the university, where he remained for 38 years. In 1979, he was named its director, one of the first black men to hold that position at a major university in the United States. He also served as the official scorekeeper for the university for 30 years. Memorials: Don Moyer Boys and Girls Club, Carle Center for Philanthropy for Neuroscience Research, or the University of Illinois Foundation for the Clements Fund at the Division of Campus Recreation.
Charles Vincent Joseph “Charlie” Craft, 81, of Urbana, died Aug. 30 at home. He worked for the university for 35 years as a business manager for Conferences and Institutes, a department of continuing education. Memorials: St. Patrick's Catholic Church or the Humane Society of Champaign-Urbana.
Marvin Lockmiller, 86, of Monticello, Illinois, died Aug. 30 at Arbor Rose Memory Care Facility in Monticello. He was an electrician at the university for 15 years. Memorials: Piatt County Nursing Home or the Monticello Methodist Church.
Theresa Rasner-Harris, 59, died Sept. 3 at Norton Remington Children’s and Women’s Hospital in Louisville, Kentucky. She worked as a histologist at the Veterinary Medicine Clinic at Illinois. Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 9, at Renner-Wikoff Chapel and Crematory in Urbana. Visitation will be an hour prior to the service from 10 to 11 a.m. at the funeral home. Sammy Joseph Rebecca, 87, of Champaign, died July 24 in Champaign. Sammy worked for 37 years at the university, starting as manager of Married Student Housing and later holding the positions of director of housing, assistant vice chancellor for administrative affairs and associate athletic director until he retired in 1992.
