Can Bayram and Wenjuan Zhu, both professors of electrical and computer engineering, have earned 2017 NSF CAREER Awards. Bayram is using his award to explore the fundamental properties of cubic phase light-emitting diodes that will provide the critical knowledge required to close the "green gap" in the visible spectrum. Zhu’s research seeks to establish fundamental knowledge of a new hybrid material platform that consists of novel ferroelectric metal oxides hafnium and zirconium oxide, stacked with a layer of two-dimensional material like graphene and mono/di-chalcogenides.
