The Illinois Sustainable Technology Center will host a free public information session on the Solar Urbana-Champaign’s Solar Group Purchase Program. The information session at the ISTC will begin at noon March 10 at 1 E. Hazelwood Drive, Champaign.
Solar Urbana-Champaign uses the power of volume purchasing to significantly reduce the upfront costs of installing solar. Buying as a group saves money because the installer is able to purchase solar panels and equipment at a bulk rate.
The group buy is open to Champaign County residents and runs through May 31. Solar panels purchased through the program can be installed on homes, farms or small businesses. The Solar Urbana-Champaign program has 13 confirmed participating homes and businesses, representing 98.4 kW of solar power.
The ISTC is hosting this free, one-hour information session to educate homeowners, small business owners and farmers of the benefits of solar energy and the group purchase program. The session will cover the basics of solar technology, market trends and financials, how to tell if your site can accommodate solar, and how to participate in the Solar Urbana-Champaign program.
