A transit boarding island on Green Street, reconfigured Illini Union vehicle entrance and parking, all-way pedestrian crossing and protected bicycle lanes are some of the new features to be developed by the Multimodal Corridor Enhancement Project starting in 2016.
The designs will be presented at an MCORE Project open house on Sept. 17 in the Alice Campbell Alumni Center from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. and 4-6 p.m. Informational displays will be set up for the five specific project areas, and MCORE team members will be available to answer questions.
Final project designs included careful consideration of feedback received on proposed concepts from previous meetings and outreach, Web form submissions and surveys from the MCORE Project open house in May.
The $35 million project, a partnership between the cities of Champaign and Urbana, the U. of I. and the Champaign Urbana Mass Transit District, will affect all modes of transportation in critical campus areas including Green Street, Armory Avenue, White and Wright streets. The project is funded in part by a $15.7 million federal TIGER grant from the U.S. Department of Transportation.
