CHAMPAIGN, Ill. Nine University of Illinois students are the first recipients of undergraduate scholarships in Asian studies.
Students in any discipline who commit to focusing their academic studies in East or Southeast Asian studies were eligible for the $3,000 awards from the UI Center for East Asian and Pacific Studies.

The purpose of the scholarship is to attract, retain and reward outstanding students in the study of Asia. Each scholarship recipient is assigned a faculty mentor who will work with the student, providing advice and guidance. Opportunities to conduct fieldwork in Asia may be available.
A minimum grade-point average of 3.0 (on a 4.0 scale) was required for consideration. Applicants have to be U.S. citizens or permanent residents.
