CHAMPAIGN, Ill. The honor society of Phi Kappa Phi has awarded a UI student a grant to help defray study abroad program expenses.
Erin Carlstrom, a junior in elementary education with a minor in art, received a Phi Kappa Phi Study Abroad Grant of $1,000. She is using the award money this semester to study art history and painting at the Marchutz School of Art in Aix-en-Provence, France.
Carlstrom, originally from Downers Grove, Ill., is one of 25 students who received the award nationwide.
Phi Kappa Phi is an academic honor society dedicated to the recognition and promotion of academic excellence in all fields of higher education. Founded in 1897 at the University of Maine, Phi Kappa Phi has 282 chapters on the campuses of colleges and universities across the United States, Puerto Rico and the Philippines. More than 1 million scholars have been inducted into Phi Kappa Phi, which awards more than $500,000 in national and local scholarships annually.
