CHAMPAIGN, Ill. The Dads Association at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign recently presented its annual Certificate of Merit Awards - one each to an outstanding staff member and an outstanding faculty member at the university.
Jean Seibold, a resource and policy analyst with the department of accountancy since 1995, was named the 2004 Certificate of Merit for Outstanding Staff Member. Seibold's duties include assisting with financial management, with the planning of all annual departmental symposia, and with the development of technology resources for faculty and doctoral students. She also serves as the department's webmaster.
According to a letter nominating Seibold for the award, "the true measure of a co-worker is not how well they perform their job but how much better they make others with whom they work. On that dimension, Jean Seibold is a most valuable asset."
In 2002 Jean received the College of Business Academic Professional Award.
Kirby Barrick, associate dean of academic programs for the College of Agricultural, Consumer and Environmental Sciences (ACES), received the 2004 Certificate of Merit Award for Outstanding Faculty Member.
Barrick oversees undergraduate admissions policies, scholarship programs, recruitment and orientation of students, development of curriculum policies and off-campus programs. He also is involved with the placement of graduates and with faculty development within the college, and with several campus organizations and committees.
Barrick's nominators spoke highly of his interaction with colleagues and particularly students: "Dean Barrick's attitude around students is one of confidence, and students quickly realize his ability. He makes a special effort to interact with students as often as his schedule permits."
In fall 2003 he was listed on the Incomplete List of Teachers Rated as Excellent.
