CHAMPAIGN, Ill. - The Dads Association at the University of Illinois presented its 2010 Certificate of Merit Award recipient for Outstanding Registered Student Organization to Chi Omega at the association's annual banquet on Friday (Nov. 12).
The award recognizes outstanding contributions to the improvement of the university and the community.
Founded nationally in 1895, Chi Omega is the largest women's fraternity. The Urbana chapter consistently scores high academically, with an overall grade-point average of 3.5 for spring 2010.
Since adopting the Make-A-Wish Foundation as the fraternity's national philanthropy, the Urbana chapter is the largest donor to the foundation in the state, raising more than $35,000 to help grant the wishes of seven children in 2009-10.
The Urbana chapter was recognized this year at the Chi Omega national convention with the Award of Achievement; and at the spring 2010 Greek Oscars with first-place awards for outstanding chapter, president and philanthropy; excellence in risk management; and second-place for excellence in new-member programming.
The Dads Association, founded in 1922, is believed to be one of the nation's longest-serving parent organizations. It supports programs, services and activities that promote the health, safety and well-being of the university community and serves as the parent liaison to campus.
