  • New website compiles ocean data from landmark 19th-century scientific voyage

    The HMS Challenger collected massive amounts of data about the world’s oceans during its 19th-century voyage and laid the foundation for the fields of oceanography and marine biology. University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign English professor Gillen D’Arcy Wood led Oceans 1876, a project to create a comprehensive database of the Challenger findings.
