The New York Times (Opinion, March 28) – Christopher Benson, a professor of journalism at Illinois, writes about the lasting importance of the image of Emmett Till, a 14-year-old African-American from Chicago who was lynched while visiting relatives in Mississippi in 1955. Benson is a co-author with Emmett Till’s mother, Mamie Till-Mobley, of “Death of Innocence: The Story of the Hate Crime That Changed America.”
