    CHAMPAIGN, Ill. The University of Illinois advertising department will present a University of Wisconsin advertising professor with the S. Watson and Elizabeth S. Dunn Excellence in Advertising award during an afternoon reception Monday (Oct. 15).

    Seven new Teaching Academies Faculty Fellows were recently announced. The Faculty Fellows Program, new this fall, supports the teaching academies, which seek to enhance the campus' teaching and learning environment. The teaching academies are focal points of faculty members' collaborative investigations of pedagogical challenges and innovations. In some areas, the teaching academies are even advancing the state of research on higher education concerns.

    CHAMPAIGN, Ill. - A University of Illinois professor and two of his former students are among the five pioneers of LED technology honored with the 2015 Draper Prize, one of the most prestigious awards in engineering.

    CHAMPAIGN, Ill. - Geneva Belford, professor emeritus of computer science, will receive the Mothers Association Medallion of Honor, the most prestigious annual award given by the Mothers Association at Illinois.

  • CAS faculty fellows and associates announced

    CAS faculty fellows and associates announced Twenty-nine UI faculty members were selected as associates or fellows of the Center for Advanced Study for the 2007-2008 academic year. The appointment grants one semester of release time for creative work on self-initiated programs of scholarly research or professional activity. The center's annual competition culminated with 12 professors and associate professors receiving an associate appointment and 17 assistant professors receiving a fellow appointment. Six fellows also were named CAS Beckman Fellows. Named for UI alumnus and benefactor Arnold O. Beckman, the additional appointments recognized outstanding younger fellow candidates who have made distinctive scholarly contributions. The UI faculty members named associates and the research they intend to pursue:

    CHAMPAIGN, Ill. - Fourteen faculty members, four academic professionals and three teaching assistants at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign will be honored today (April 18) for excellence in teaching and advising. The award winners will be recognized during the annual Instructional Awards banquet in the Illini Union,1401 W. Green St., Urbana.

  • Illinois professor to share Leo Szilard Lectureship Award

    CHAMPAIGN, Ill. - Frederick K. Lamb, a professor of physics and of astronomy and holder of the Fortner Chair in theoretical astrophysics at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, has been selected as a 2005 recipient of the Leo Szilard Lectureship Award from the American Physical Society. Lamb, who co-chaired the APS Study Group on Boost-Phase Intercept Systems for National Missile Defense, shares the award with the 11 other members of the group.

  • Illinois professor to receive National Medal of Technology

    CHAMPAIGN, Ill. - Nick Holonyak Jr., a John Bardeen Professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering and Physics at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, and two of his former graduate students, M. George Craford and Russell Dupuis, have each been selected as recipients of the 2002 National Medal of Technology.

    CHAMPAIGN, Ill. - Five professors at the University of Illinois - Asef Bayat, Joy Harjo, Catherine Prendergast, Stephen Andrew Taylor and Deke Weaver - have been named 2014 Guggenheim Fellows. They are among 178 North American artists, scholars and scientists selected on the basis of achievement and exceptional promise from a pool of almost 3,000 applicants, according to the John Simon Guggenheim Memorial Foundation.
