    CHAMPAIGN, Ill. - One hundred and forty freshmen and sophomores at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign have been designated Chancellor's Scholars in the Campus Honors Program this fall.

    Paul Kelter, a professor of chemistry and director of general chemistry, and Lenny Pitt, a professor of computer science, have been named Distinguished Teacher/Scholars.

  • Illinois professor to share Leo Szilard Lectureship Award

    CHAMPAIGN, Ill. - Frederick K. Lamb, a professor of physics and of astronomy and holder of the Fortner Chair in theoretical astrophysics at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, has been selected as a 2005 recipient of the Leo Szilard Lectureship Award from the American Physical Society. Lamb, who co-chaired the APS Study Group on Boost-Phase Intercept Systems for National Missile Defense, shares the award with the 11 other members of the group.

  • Campus Awards for Excellence in Public Engagement

    Three faculty members, one academic professional and one student have been honored with this year's Campus Award for Excellence in Public Engagement. The awards program, now in its fifth year, was developed to recognize people who have applied their knowledge and expertise to issues of public concern in order to improve the well-being of Illinois residents. Recipients were honored at a Sept. 22 reception. The program is an extension of the Partnership Illinois initiative and the Senate Committee on Continuing Education and Public Service.

  • Dads Association at Illinois honors high-achieving sophomores

    CHAMPAIGN, Ill. A group of students from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign has been honored with Dads Association Library Awards. Chosen from among students who have completed their sophomore year, the award winners were among the top three students in their respective colleges or had maintained a 4.0 (out of 4.0) grade-point average.
