  • Nobel laureate Jack Kilby to be honored April 18

    CHAMPAIGN, Ill. Nobel laureate and University of Illinois alumnus Jack S. Kilby will be honored at a campus celebration that will include a free public symposium on Wednesday, April 18.

  • Robert H. Burger began his career at the UI in 1976 as a serials cataloger in the Slavic library. From 1989 until February of this year, Burger was head of the Slavic library. He assumed new responsibilities as associate university librarian for services on Feb. 21. He holds a bachelor’s degree in Russian language and literature from Tufts University, Boston; two master’s degrees – one in Slavic literature and another in library science, both from the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill; and a doctorate in library science from the UI.

    CHAMPAIGN, Ill. How to fight a fire its still a key part of the curriculum for this years 77th annual Illinois Fire College at the University of Illinois. But given the statistics of what it is todays firefighters do most often, the curriculum this year also will include classes on how to remove someone trapped in a car, how to rescue a person in a grain bin, and what firefighters need to know about the potential for a structure to collapse.

Chancellor Michael Aiken has issued a memo to faculty, staff and students at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign rescinding the part of his March 2 memo requiring prior authorization before they contact prospective student athletes. This action does not lessen the universitys commitment to complying with NCAA rules.
