CHAMPAIGN, Ill. — Wilma B. Liebman, the former head of the National Labor Relations Board, will be the featured speaker of the annual Derber Lecture at 5:30 p.m. Thursday (Dec. 1) in the Wagner Education Center of the School of Labor and Employment Relations Building, 504 E. Armory Ave., Champaign.
Liebman, who recently finished her appointment as the head of the NLRB, will give a speech titled “Labor Law, Economic Justice, and Political Rhetoric.”
Liebman’s talk will address the “ongoing political controversy over the board’s recent activities and the persistent challenges to labor law’s enduring values, which are critical to a democratic society and a fair economy,” according to the organizers.
The NLRB is an independent federal agency that decides unfair labor practice and representation cases under the National Labor Relations Act.
The Derber Lecture, sponsored by the U. of I. School of Labor and Employment Relations, is free and open to the public.
