Construction at Campus Recreation Center East (CRCE) and at the Intramural Physical Education building will continue through the summer, as the first phase of a $77.6 million renovation project for Campus Recreation. CRCE will expand from 35,000 to 110,000 square feet and will gain a 1/8-mile indoor track, a leisure pool and spa, and locker rooms among other amenities. In an online referendum held in November 2001, students voted to fund the project through an increase of up to $77 in the general fee. CRCE and the portion of IMPE that is under construction now will likely reopen at the end of the fall 2004 semester.
