Brainiacs Anthony Leggett, winner of the 2003 Nobel Prize in Physics, is one of the people featured in the "Big Brains" calendar issued by the Urbana campus. The 2006 calendar contains artistically enhanced brain scans of campus administrators, faculty and staff members and students taken at Beckman Institute's Biomedical Imaging Center. The calendar is the brainchild of the center's associate director, Tracey Wszalek, and a colleague. The images for each individual will highlight a particular brain region or function that the person uses in his or her job. A local graphic artist is using the scans to create an artistic interpretation of the brain function being demonstrated. A photo of the individual will accompany the scan. The calendars are expected to be in bookstores by Thanksgiving.
