CHAMPAIGN, Ill. - The Library of the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign has added a new service.
The largest public university collection in the world, holding nearly 24 million items, now offers its users a "Buy a Book Service."
Linked to the library's Web site, the book-purchase service gives users "easy and quick access to local and online booksellers," said Lynn Wiley, head of acquisitions at the University Library, so that when a title is not available through the University Library's online catalog, or when a library user prefers to own a book, the option to purchase is only a couple of clicks away.
A small percentage of purchases from select vendors "will help the library add more books to its collection," Wiley said. More information about the service is available at www.library.uiuc.edu/services/bookreferral.htm or by contacting Wiley at 217-244-1846 or lnwiley@uiuc.edu.
The University Library's Web online catalog receives some 235,000 visits a day. The physical collections are held in 38 separate departmental libraries.
