CHAMPAIGN, Ill. - The School of Music at the University of Illinois Friday announced that it has canceled its fourth annual Summer Piano Institute, which was to have been held next week (June 14-18).
The master classes for students and teachers and private lessons have been canceled as have the concert by guest artist Boaz Sharon, which was scheduled for June 15, and the gala concert, scheduled for June 18, at Krannert Center for the Performing Arts, 500 S. Goodwin Avenue, Urbana.
According to Edward Rath, associate director of the School of Music, insufficient enrollment prompted cancelation of the programs this year.
However, resident faculty members will perform as scheduled:
June 14 - William Heiles, works for harpsichord by J.S. Bach and György Ligeti
June 16 - Rochelle Sennet, works by J.S. Bach and Ravel
June 17 - Ian Hobson, works by Chopin
The performances begin at 7:30 p.m. in Foellinger Great Hall at the performing arts center. Tickets are available on the Krannert Center website; by calling 217-333-6280 or 800-527-2849; or by visiting the ticket office between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m.
