CHAMPAIGN, Ill. - Springfield social worker Marcia Stoll has been named the recipient of the 2011 Medallion of Honor Award, given by the Moms Association of the University of Illinois.
Stoll will be recognized at the Moms Association annual board meeting April 9 in the Illini Union, 1401 W. Green St., Urbana.
The award was created in 1966 to recognize those people who, by example and services, have used their talents to enrich the lives of others. Two men and eight women were honored between 1966 and 1976. Since 1977, the award has been given to women affiliated in some way with the U. of I.
Stoll received a master's in social work from Illinois in 1985. She began serving on the School of Social Work Alumni Board of Directors in 2002 and was president from 2005 to 2007. She co-chaired the Capital Campaign Committee for the school and serves on the its advancement committee.
In 2009 the U. of I. Alumni Association honored Stoll with the Constituent Leadership Award in recognition of her outstanding service to her school and the U. of I.
The Moms Association, established in 1923, is believed to be one of the nation's oldest parent organizations. The association supports programs, services and activities that promote the health, safety and well-being of the university community and serves as the parent liaison to the campus.
