U.S. News releases some graduate rankings

U.S. News & World Report released its rankings of some graduate programs March 11 as part of the 2015 U.S. News & World Report Best Graduate Schools rankings. Civil engineering and condensed matter physics at Illinois both received No. 1 rankings.

Another 10 programs at Illinois ranked in the top five; 10 more were ranked in the top 10. The magazine ranked business, education, engineering and law programs last year; the sciences last were evaluated three years ago. Undergraduate program rankings are released in September.

The College of Business graduate program moved up seven places, to No. 35; law moved to No. 40, up from 47.

Within the business college, the graduate accounting program ranked No. 3; within the College of Education (ranked No. 26), curriculum/instruction ranked No. 8, educational psychology No. 5, special education No. 9.

Within the College of Engineering (No. 6), a number of programs were rated within the top 10 nationally: aerospace/aeronautical (7), biological/agricultural (2), computer engineering (5), electrical/electronic/communications (4), environmental/environmental health (3), materials (2), mechanical (5).

In the department of chemistry (6): analytical (3), inorganic (8), physical (10), theoretical (9).

In computer science (5): artificial intelligence (7), programming language (9), systems (7).

Mathematics (17): logic (4).

The department of physics graduate program was ranked No. 9.
