U. of I. architecture professor Jeffery S. Poss elected fellow in AIA

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. – Jeffery S. Poss, a professor in the School of Architecture at the University of Illinois, has been elected to the College of Fellows of the American Institute of Architects. Poss was one of 134 AIA members to be elevated to fellowship by the 2010 Jury of Fellows.

The honor, one of the highest that the AIA can bestow on members, is awarded to members who have made significant contributions to the profession and society on a national level and who have achieved a standard of excellence in the profession. To qualify, architects must have at least 10 years’ membership in AIA in one or more of five nomination categories, including the design category in which Poss was nominated.

Of a total membership of nearly 83,000, fewer than 2,872 AIA members have been distinguished with fellowship or honorary fellowship.

Poss and the other inductees will be recognized June 11 during the annual National AIA Convention and Design Exposition in Miami.

An alumnus of U. of I.’s School of Architecture, Poss has been a faculty member in the school since 1989 and was chair of the design faculty from 2000 to 2002.

Among many other honors that Poss has earned during his career, the Association of Licensed Architects awarded him a silver medal in 2007 for designing a memorial, located in Springfield, Ill., that commemorates Illinois’ World War II veterans.
