Three experts to talk about future of financial regulation

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. – Three nationally known experts will discuss the future of financial regulation in the wake of the worst financial crisis since the Great Depression.

The University of Illinois Center for Business and Public Policy will host the debate, “Financial Regulation: Preventing Another Crisis,” from 4 to 5:30 p.m. Oct. 12 in Deloitte Auditorium at the Business Instructional Facility, 515 Gregory Drive, Champaign.

The speakers:

  • Chester Spatt, a professor of finance at Carnegie Mellon University and former chief economist and director of the office of economic analysis for the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission.
  • Andrew Busch, currency and public policy strategist, BMO Capital Markets’ Investment Banking Division; senior fellow of the Illinois Policy Institute; and American Action Forum expert.
  • Greg Ip, U.S. economics editor, The Economist magazine.

The lecture, free and open to the public, will be moderated by Charles Kahn, an economist and the head of the U. of I. finance department.
