Thirteen faculty members receive entrepreneurial honors

The Academy for Entrepreneurial Leadership announced its 2007-2008 Faculty Fellows. The 13 fellows will spend the upcoming academic year teaching courses involving entrepreneurship. The fellows represent nine diverse colleges and 13 unique disciplines, spanning the breadth of Illinois’ programs. The program was created to foster growth in the number and scope of entrepreneurial courses available across campus. Faculty members from all disciplines can apply for annual funds that are awarded based on curriculum merit. Fellows may either design entrepreneurial materials to be integrated into currently taught courses or develop a new course that teaches entrepreneurial concepts. Awards up to $15,000 for a new course or $10,000 for course revision are granted for a one-year term. The academy also provides additional support, such as funding for attendance at national entrepreneurship conferences. The fellows and course titles:

  • Janet Bercovitz, professor of business administration, “Managing Venture Growth”
  • Jim Frost, director of the Program in Professional Writing in the department of English, “Introducing Entrepreneurial Methodologies Into Business and Technical Writing 250”
  • William S. Hammack, professor of chemical and biomolecular engineering, “The Hidden World of Engineering”
  • Stacy Anne Harwood, professor of urban and regional planning, “Social Inequality and Planning”
  • Glenn Hoetker, professor of business administration, “Science and Technology in the Pacific Century: The Role of Entrepreneurship”
  • Laura L. Hollis, associate director of the Academy for Entrepreneurial Leadership and adjunct lecturer in the department of industrial and enterprise systems engineering, “Entrepreneurship, Economic Development and Public Policy”
  • Brian Lilly, adjunct professor of industrial and enterprise systems engineering, “An Entrepreneurial Approach to Green Engineering”
  • Lissette M. Piedra, professor of social work, “Social Entrepreneurship in a DiverseSociety: Race, Ethnicity and Social Policy”
  • Michele Plante, coordinator of career services and instructor in the College of Fine and Applied Arts, “Building Careers in the Arts”
  • Jodee Stanley, instructor in the Creative Writing Program in the department of English, “Topics in Literary Publishing, Mentorship and Promotion”
  • Daniel Warnock, professor of natural resources and environmental science, “Entrepreneurship in Horticulture”
  • Taylor L. Willingham, adjunct lecturer in library and information science, “Civic Entrepreneurship and Public Institutions”
  • Weimo Zhu, professor of kinesiology, “Persuasive Technology for Physical Activity Promotion”
