Students encouraged to enter the Sesquicentennial Design Competition

The department of landscape architecture at Illinois announces the Sesquicentennial Design Competition, an initiative for students.

To help visualize and interpret our university’s most important accomplishments, the Sesquicentennial Design Competition challenges interdisciplinary teams of students to design campus installations that communicate essential information about Illinois achievements.

Teams of up to five students each will collaborate for eight weeks during the second half of the spring 2017 semester, with coordination by professor Jessica Henson. Teams may include students from any discipline at the university, but must include members from at least two different academic disciplines. Participants also have the option to register for two hours of course credit.

Each member of the winning team will be awarded $500.  Proposals will be presented to an expert jury on May 3, which is Sasaki Day  – an annual awards day named for Hideo Sasaki, a 1946 graduate of the department.

Students are invited to attend an informational meeting Monday, March 13, from 6-8 p.m. in room 219 Temple Buell Hall. For more information, visit the department’s Facebook page or its webpage.
