CHAMPAIGN, Ill. – A new exhibition that questions the role of the architect as master builder in the 21st century will be on view June 6 through July 3 at I space, the Chicago gallery of the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign:

“[RE]mote chicago I II III” presents work by hemingway+a/studio and graduate students of Erik M Hemingway, a U. of I. professor of architecture and principal architect of the Chicago design firm.

Projects on view frame and exploit mundane, mass-produced objects, and represent students’ experimentation with digital and analog tools to create results that Hemingway says range from “urban speculations to specific program uses at full scale.”

“The resulting alterations and juxtapositions present compelling material evidence as a potential methodology for future advances in architectural fabrication,” Hemingway said.

An opening reception is planned in conjunction with the exhibition, from 5-7 p.m. on June 6 at the gallery, 230 W. Superior St., Chicago.

I space gallery hours are Tuesday through Saturday, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
