CHAMPAIGN, Ill. Rynae E. Boler of Chicago, a sophomore at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, has been selected as one of 13 GE Fund Scholars chosen for outstanding academic performance and leadership.
Boler, of expects to earn a bachelors degree in materials science and engineering in May 2005. She is a graduate of Whitney M. Young Magnet High School in Chicago.
GE Fund Scholars are students from under-represented or disadvantaged backgrounds enrolled in business or engineering programs who are nominated by their universities in the spring of their freshman year. Scholars at public institutions receive $6,000 per year for their sophomore, junior and senior years, contingent on continued academic excellence.
“Our hats are off to these terrific students who have already achieved great accomplishments,” said Joyce Hergenhan, the president of the fund. “Were proud to support these future leaders.”
As of fall 2002, the fund will be supporting 43 scholars at 29 universities.
