Schools come to U. of I. in search of new teachers at educators’ job fair

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. – School districts from across Illinois, as well as 18 other states, will be looking for new teachers on Thursday (March 1) at the annual Mid-America Educators’ Job Fair at the University of Illinois.

Almost 150 districts will be represented at the recruiting event, often referred to as Teacher Placement Day, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Illini Union, 1401 W. Green St., Urbana.

Soon-to-be Illinois graduates, as well as veteran teachers, are invited to attend.

About 100 of the districts with recruiters at the event are from Illinois, with Arizona, California, North Carolina and Florida all represented by at least six districts. Two districts from Alaska also will be sending recruiters.

Among the specialties most in demand are math, science, special education, bilingual education, and English as a second language, according to Mildred Trent, the director of the university’s Educational Career Services Office, which organizes the event.

For additional information about the event or the current job situation for teachers, contact Trent, or Davida Bluhm, at 217-333-0740. Additional information about the districts and schools participating is available at http://www.ed.uiuc.edu/ecso.
