Planning for a ‘Top 10’ community topic of conference

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. — Urban sprawl, water quality and green spaces are among the topics that will be examined at an upcoming conference sponsored by the University of Illinois department of urban and regional planning.

“Planning for Great Communities: What Qualities Make a ‘Top 10’ Community” is the theme of the conference, which will take place Dec. 7-8 at the Hawthorne Suites, 101 Trade Centre Drive, Champaign.

Registration begins at 8 a.m. on Dec. 7, with conference sessions scheduled throughout the day.

The program on Dec. 8 begins at 9 a.m. and concludes with lunch and closing remarks at noon.

The conference is for professional planners; members of planning commissions, city councils and county boards; educators; real estate agents and developers; architects and landscape architects; and finance professionals.

Among the issues to be explored are housing and communities, transportation, education, economic stability, changing demographics and land resources.

Presenters will include faculty members from the UI and other universities, as well as area planners, developers and government officials.

The registration cost is $265, or $220 for alumni of the UI department of urban and regional planning or members of the American Planning Association.
