Photography, architectural projects on view at I space in Chicago

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. Two new exhibitions will be on view Feb. 22 through March 30 at I space, the Chicago gallery of the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign:

“resemblance + habit” features digital prints from photographs by Amy Baur, who earned her master of fine arts degree in photography from the UI. In text that accompanies the exhibition, written by Chicago art critic and lecturer Fred Camper, Baurs imagery is described as “restrained and meditative.” Further, Camper writes of Bauers images: “The opposite of todays brash, attention-seeking mass-culture-influenced art, they resolutely avoid grabbing at the viewer, instead standing back in their own nuanced quietude.”

“La Dallman Architects: Works in Progress” features drawings and models of projects by architects James Dallman and Grace La, whose Milwaukee-based firm was recently recognized by Architectural Record as one of the nations most talented emerging firms, based on the unique quality and broad diversity of its projects. That diversity is reflected in recent projects, which include a design study for a new pedestrian/bicycle bridge and urban park in downtown Milwaukee, a residential tower along Lake Michigan and a public market.

An opening reception for both exhibitions is scheduled for 5 to 7 p.m. Feb. 22 at the gallery, 230 W. Superior St., Chicago.

I space gallery hours are Tuesday through Saturday, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
