Spurlock Museum presents the panel discussion “Looking Back, Looking Forward” on Thursday, Nov. 15 at 4 p.m. The discussion at the museum is held in honor of the 25th anniversary of the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender Resource Center at Illinois.
The center’s mission is to foster an environment that is open, safe and inclusive for people of all sexualities and gender identities. Panel members, includingformer directors and alumni, the current director and representatives from the Uniting Pride Center of Champaign County, discuss the history and evolution of the center and the challenges and opportunities of LGBTQ activism on the university campus and in the community.
This event is part of Spurlock’s Third Thursday Series highlighting university history and is held in conjunction with Spurlock Museum’s temporary exhibit “Knowledge at Work: The University of Illinois at 150.” This exhibit explores the history of campus as a community of educators, researchers and students engaged in learning, research and public service. Learn about the contributions of a wide variety of people and groups to campus history and ways the university has changed how it relates to the people it serves. The exhibit runs through Dec. 21 at the museum, located at 600 S. Gregory St., Urbana.
