Olympic memorabilia on display through Aug. 31

“Athens to Athens: Olympic Research Collections at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign,” an exhibit at the UI Library, showcases artifacts, memorabilia and other materials pertaining to the Olympic Games.

The exhibit includes reproductions of Olympic posters, commemorative pins, sashes and badges and the track shoes worn by alumnus Avery Brundage, who competed in the 1912 Summer Olympics in Stockholm, Sweden.

One display case highlights UI alumni who participated in the Olympic Games and includes an Olympic torch provided by Paul Magelli (shown upper right), director of the Office for the Study of Business Issues. Magelli carried the torch during the cross-country torch run prior to the opening ceremonies of the 2002 winter games in Salt Lake City.

The exhibit, on display through the end of August, is located on the first floor of the main library.
