Nominations sought for honorary degree awards

The Senate Committee on Honorary Degrees invites all departments and units to identify and nominate individuals who have made substantial contributions to their respective academic disciplines for an honorary degree award. Information regarding the nomination procedure and criteria for honorary degree award nominations can be found on the Senate website.

The prime, controlling consideration should be distinction. The person should have made a distinguished contribution to knowledge and creativity in the relevant field of endeavor or have shown sustained activity of uncommon merit.

A list of honorary degrees previously awarded at this campus can be found online.

The committee encourages faculty members to take the time over the summer to compile a nomination and submit it for consideration early in the fall semester for the 2019 commencement ceremony.

Contact Matthew Wheeler or Franci Miller in the Senate Office with questions about the honorary degree award process.
